Smart Grid Deployment Tracker 1Q13 - Smart Meter and Smart Grid Projects, Meter Data Management, Communications Networks, and Smart Grid Systems Integrators: Project Tracking, Vendor Selection Share, and Unit Shipments

NEW YORK, March 6, 2013 /PRNewswire via COMTEX/ -- Reportlinker.com announces that a new market research report is available in its catalogue: Smart Grid Deployment Tracker 1Q13 - Smart Meter and Smart Grid Projects, Meter Data Management, Communications Networks, and Smart Grid Systems Integrators: Project Tracking, Vendor Selection Share, and Unit Shipments http://www.reportlinker.com/p01116939/Smart-Grid-Deployment-Tracker-1Q13---Smart-Meter-and-Smart-Grid-Projects-Meter-Data-Management-Communications-Networks-and-Smart-Grid-Systems-Integrators-Project-Tracking-Vendor-Selection-Share-and-Unit-Shipments .html#utm_source=prnewswire&utm_medium=pr&utm_campaign=Electrical_Equipment Smart meter shipments in the second half of 2012 grew in comparison to the first half of the year. The total volume reached 19.75 million meters worldwide in 3Q 2012 and 20.95 million meters in 4Q 2012. Overall for the year, smart meter shipments were up 1.03% over 2011. The big driver came from China, where the pace of shipments accelerated despite a slowing overall economy.

The pace of meter shipments in North America, however, slowed from the previous quarters, as projects funded by the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA) have mostly been completed. As a result, there were no large-scale smart meter deployments announced in the second half of 2012. Instead, smaller municipal and cooperative utilities began smart meter projects throughout North America and Europe. Further dampening the smart meter industry was Brazil's announcement that it would not require existing electricity customers to upgrade to smart meters.

This Pike Research tracker report, covering market activities in the second half of 2012, analyzes worldwide utility smart grid and smart meter programs, including tracking of customer endpoints, metering vendors, communications vendors, and systems integrators. The tracker includes a tactical examination of technologies, deployment timeframes, and vendor selections for each utility deployment, along with a vendor selection share breakdown for North America.
