New Build of ArcGIS Explorer Desktop Tightens Integration with ArcGIS Online

REDLANDS, Calif., Feb. 14, 2013 /PRNewswire via COMTEX/ -- The most recent ArcGIS Explorer Desktop release includes new features and enhancements to make it a more powerful tool in an enterprise GIS, including content sharing via ArcGIS Online, tabular information display, and new presentation tools. ArcGIS Explorer Desktop is a free GIS viewer that enables the exploration and visualization of GIS information.

(Logo: http://photos.prnewswire.com/prnh/20110425/LA88950LOGO) The new version of ArcGIS Explorer Desktop allows users to upload GIS content directly to ArcGIS Online accounts, where anyone with Internet access can see it. Integrating ArcGIS Explorer with ArcGIS Online and Portal for ArcGIS, Esri's on-premises cloud, expands its support for role assignment, creation of custom basemap galleries, and organization-specific searches. Users can search shared content on ArcGIS Online or private content hosted using Portal for ArcGIS.

ArcGIS Explorer now includes the ability to display attribute tables within a map. With a single click, users can view a table showing all the records for a selected feature layer. Tabular information can be written to a CSV file or added directly to the map.

The built-in presentation capabilities of ArcGIS Explorer Desktop have always been a popular way for users to communicate geographically. With this release, users have even more tools for creating engaging, interactive presentations. These new tools include slide animations, timed transitions, audio sync, and presentation markup. Additional improvements include the ability to control the size and position of pop-up windows and full support for KML tours. Users can also command ArcGIS Explorer Desktop to use their own geocoding and place-finding services.

Starting with this release, no installation is needed to work with ArcGIS Explorer Desktop; it can run off an external USB-connected drive on any computer that meets system requirements.

The free download of ArcGIS Explorer Desktop is available from esri.com/explorer.
