RealVNC features latest technology for the connected car at Mobile World Congress 2013

Feb 08, 2013 (M2 PRESSWIRE via COMTEX) -- RealVNC,the global provider of VNC remote access technology, is showcasing the latest in phone-centric car connectivity solutions at Mobile World Congress with VNC Automotive, now a MirrorLink Certified(TM) product. MirrorLink is a technology for offering connectivity between mobile devices and in-vehicle infotainment systems, developed by the international Car Connectivity Consortium (CCC), made up of some of the world's leading companies in the automotive, mobile communications and consumer electronics industries.

VNC Automotive gives drivers access to smartphone content such as navigation, music libraries and internet radio. The mobile device can be controlled directly from the infotainment touch screen, vehicle bezel keys, steering wheel switches or by voice command, ensuring all content can be accessed safely on the move. As well as being MirrorLink Certified, VNC Automotive supports over 100 handsets, covering Symbian, Windows Mobile, Blackberry and Android devices along with Apple's iPod Out that allows an iPhone 3G/3GS/4 or iPod Touch to output and display the iPod video interface on the head unit screen.

Demonstrations of VNC Automotive on RealVNC's stand will include simultaneous streaming, showing what can be displayed safely at the front of the car such as maps and music selections; while another screen will show rear seat entertainment including videos and games. In addition to mobile-to-vehicle connectivity, VNC Automotive supports cloud connectivity enabling the driver to access remote services and enable automotive OEM and dealer networks to access vehicle systems and provide help to drivers.

'The phone-centric connected car is becoming a reality in 2013," said Tom Blackie, Vice President Mobile at RealVNC. "VNC Automotive is already selected for many major high volume production programs by some of the world's largest automotive manufacturers, tier 1 suppliers and mobile phone vendors. As a Core Member of the CCC, RealVNC now has MirrorLink(TM) certified products for all major operating systems and our technology is underpinning many of the already commercially available MirrorLink Certified products." Mobile operator helpdesk solution Also featured by RealVNC at MWC 2013 will be VNC Mobile Solution for Helpdesk and Device Management, aimed at developers producing applications for remote smartphone management and support. This allows mobile operator helpdesk agents to access customer handsets to assist with configuration, training, problem diagnosis and installation, increasing first-time call resolution rates and reducing customer churn. Ennova will be demonstrating its implementation of VNC Mobile Solution into its helpdesk application for telcos on the RealVNC stand over the first two days of the show. Ennova will also be sharing how their mobile operator customers are using the software for mobile device management.

VNC Viewer Finally, RealVNC will be demonstrating the latest versions of its popular VNC Viewer App that allows users to view and fully interact with a Mac OS X, Windows, Linux or UNIX computer from an Apple iOS or Android device - available from the App Store or Android Market. The App is used by personal and professional users alike, giving individuals the freedom to access their computer whilst travelling and out of hours, or as a tool for business users such as IT help-desk staff to remotely support colleagues.
