LS telcom completes first phase of spectrum management contract for Industry Canada

Jan 14, 2013 (M2 PRESSWIRE via COMTEX) -- The Canadian regulatory authority, Industry Canada, has begun the implementation of the spectrum management system SPECTRA Enterprise from LS telcom Limited for the frequency assignment and coordination of all Canadian radio communication services. The new system is part of the project for the re-design and modernisation of Industry Canada's spectrum management systems by LS telcom. The contract includes the delivery and installation of a software system for 500 concurrent users as well as professional services, training and maintenance of the system.

The first phase of the multi-year project included a detailed business process and business requirements analysis which has now been successfully completed. Various existing legacy databases and systems were identified and analysed for the subsequent data migration and system integration tasks. A single database for all spectrum data, based on LS telcom's SPECTRA Enterprise solution, will be accessed by Industry Canada users all across Canada. In total, 500 administrative and technical users will access the highly-modern system from 40 local offices in three administrative regions and from the field via internet connection using Citrix.

The system will be operational at the end of 2013 covering the frequency assignment processes for fixed services. Future phases include the implementation of broadcast, land mobile and all other communication services. In addition, SPECTRA Enterprise will offer work management of administrative tasks such as equipment certification, investigation, and monitoring analysis.

The SPECTRA-Enterprise spectrum management solution will be integrated into Industry Canada's Government internet platform and will be available to staff and clients in both English and French.

Industry Canada is the latest of several major national regulatory authorities, such as OFCOM, UK, or ACMA, Australia, to rely upon LS telcom technology for their essential spectrum management systems.
