Goodwin Procter Expands Asia Practice with Addition of Gloria Liu and Jay Chiu to Hong Kong Office

HONG KONG --(Business Wire)--

Goodwin Procter, an Am Law 50 firm, today announced that Gloria Liu has joined the firm's Business Law Department in Hong Kong as a partner in Goodwin's Private Equity and Merger & Acquisition Practices. In addition, the firm announced that Jay Chiu, currently a counsel in the Litigation Department and a member of the Intellectual Property Group in Los Angeles, is relocating to the Hong Kong office.

Liu joins Goodwin from Paul, Weiss, Rifkind & Garrison where she was a senior associate in their Hong Kong office. She will focus her practice on cross-border mergers and acquisitions, private equity and venture capital, and foreign direct investment into China. She has represented major private equity funds in a variety of equity investments and going-private transactions in the Greater China region, and will help lead Goodwin's M&A and private equity practices in Greater China.

Chiu joined Goodwin in 2012 and has represented international corporations and diverse technology clients in patent litigation in U.S. District Courts in Texas,Delaware, California, Florida, Virginia, Wisconsin and New York, at the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit, and before the International Trade Commission. He has also assisted clients in the development of offensive and defensive patent strategies by providing opinions of counsel and managing their patent portfolios. Chiu will help lead Goodwin's litigation, FCPA and investigations practices in Asia.

Liu earned her J.D. from the University of California, Berkeley School of Law (Boalt Hall); she earned her LL.B. from East China University of Politics.
