AthleteInMe.com's innovative calorie-to-exercise app recognized by Web Health Awards

Jan 08, 2013 (PRNewsChannel.com via COMTEX) -- PR NewsChannel PHOENIX For the second year in a row, Web Health Awards has recognized AthleteInMe.com(R) for its innovative health and fitness resources.

During 4Q2012, Web Health Awards recognized AthleteInMe.com's "Exercise Calorie Converter" app.A The app translates the calories in common food items into minutes of exercise, specific for the person's body weight.A Results are presented for walking, jogging, biking, and swimming.

"Many people understand how calories affect their diet," says Stan Reents, PharmD, creator of the "Exercise Calorie Converter" app. "But almost no one realizes how long they might have to exercise to burn-off those same calories." "I hope that by having this app in their mobile device, people can make better menu selections when they dine out," says Reents, a health care professional who has obtained five exercise/fitness/coaching certifications. The app's proprietary database lists thousands of food items and beverages.

Researchers at the School of Public Health at Johns Hopkins recently published a study validating this concept.A When calorie amounts were presented as "exercise equivalents" right at the point-of-sale, consumers made better selections.

"People are often surprised when they find out how many calories are in their favorite food item," says Reents.A "But they are absolutely stunned when they learn how long they have to exercise to burn those same calories." The Exercise Calorie Converter app is available for Apple iPhone, iPad, and iPod Touch, and for Android-compatible smartphones.A It sells for $2.99.

About AthleteInMe.com(R): AthleteInMe.com(R) promotes healthy lifestyles by providing consumer resources on exercise, fitness, and sports nutrition.A Online health coaching is also available.
