Samsung Apps Deepens Foothold as Preferred Smart TV Platform for Consumers, Content Providers and Developers

LAS VEGAS --(Business Wire)--

Samsung (News - Alert) Electronics America, Inc., today announced that it has strengthened its position as the preferred Smart TV Platform, along with a series of new apps and services for Samsung Smart TVs.

CNET recently stated that Samsung's Smart TV Platform was "the undisputed king of content." A broad range of apps is available covering every category including entertainment, music, sports, fitness and social networking.

This year, Samsung is unveiling a roster of multicultural apps including Univision's UVideos, YuppTV, WatchIndia. TV, Crunchyroll and Viki Premiere. Multicultural content is expected to be one of the fastest growing SmartTV genres in 2013.

In addition, Samsung announced that 2013 will be the beginning of a new era of truly interactive TV, as this year content providers such as ESPN (News - Alert) and Turner will be delivering apps that supplement live broadcasts with additional information such as stats and trivia.

Delivery Agent, the leader in shopping-enabled entertainment for more than 350 of the world's leading global media brands, also announced at CES (News - Alert) a partnership with Samsung that will offer Samsung Smart TV oners to shop the shows they are watching.


For example, while watching New Girl, viewers can purchase clothing and accessories that character Jess wears during the episode by either clicking the remote while watching the program or by navigating to the application marketplace and accessing the "Shop the Shows" app, which is available 24/7 to Samsung Smart TV users.

Other recently announced apps include Amazon Instant Video, Amazon Cloud Player, CNET, Redbox Instant by Verizon, Bravo, Spotify (News - Alert), Showtime Interactive, Crackle and an upgraded version of Verizon FIOS TV with support for 75 channels.

These join an all-star roster of apps including Angry Birds, Discovery Channel, AOL On, CNBC Real-Time, ESPN ScoreCenter, Hulu Plus, MTV Music Meter, Netflix, TIME TV, WSJ Live and MLB (News - Alert).TV.
