BRIEF: Saudi online dailies top Forbes' ranking

JEDDAH, Dec 29, 2012 (Arab News - McClatchy-Tribune Information Services via COMTEX) -- Three Saudi newspapers claimed to have topped the ranking of Forbes Middle East Magazine for the most visited newspaper online, each in a different category.


The ranking was based on the statistics supplied by Google Analytics of 41 Arabic dailies in the period between Aug. 2011 to Aug. 2012.

Six Saudi newspapers appeared in the list of the most popular daily on Internet. Al-Riyadh newspaper came on top of Saudi dailies and second of Arab newspapers in terms of total visits at 123.9 million. It also ranked second Arabic newspaper in the unique visitors category with 35.52 million visitors.

Okaz daily claimed first place in this category at 42.5 million visits.

Al-Eqtisadiah business daily said on its website that it ranked first among specialized Arabic newspapers in 2012. It was third in Saudi Arabia following Al-Riyadh and Okaz. Forbes said Al-Eqtisadiah had 26 million hits with 11 million unique visitors.

Sabaq daily said it came first in the Forbes list as the most powerful news site on the Internet in the Arab world with 376,086 visitors.

Alarabiya.net claimed it was the top news channel on the Internet in current year.
