Blackboard's Student Debit Accounts Go Mobile

WASHINGTON, Dec. 12, 2012 /PRNewswire via COMTEX/ -- Students can now manage all aspects of their Blackboard Transact(TM) campus ID accounts with their mobile devices, Blackboard Inc. announced today. Through eAccounts(TM) Mobile, students can check their campus debit card account balance, view transactions, make real-time deposits, and manage security features on iOS® smartphones or tablets.

eAccounts Mobile is the latest extension to eAccounts, the online, self-service portal for closed-looped campus debit card accounts that is already used by hundreds of thousands of students nationwide. Users are able to download their campus-specific mobile app from the Apple iTunes® store and have it seamlessly integrate with their institution's instance of Blackboard Transact.

"This new mobile app provides a user-friendly and convenient way for our students to manage their accounts online," said Jackie Barnaby, manager of the Saints Card Office at North Georgia College & State University. "We have used it since 2009 and not only has it gained in student popularity and usage year-over-year, but we have also seen a 70 percent increase in stored value account balances. I have no doubt this momentum will continue with the addition of mobile access." The certified PCI-compliant portal creates a fully customizable account management environment that is uniquely branded to each institution. By enabling student-management of card accounts, administrators can provide a more convenient and timely option for students to access their accounts, while off-loading routine transactions from the card office staff.

"Just as mobile technology can transform the academic experience, it can also enhance how a college or university provides administrative tools and campus services," said David Marr, president of Blackboard Transact. "As today's student expects to be connected to and interact with their institution through a mobile device, we are now able to further help institutions meet these expectations." Used in campuses around the world, Blackboard Transact is an innovative, comprehensive solution for cashless commerce on and around campus, financial services, campus-wide video security, and exterior and facilities access.
