Spirent Puts SCinet Multi-100G Network to the Test

SUNNYVALE, Calif. --(Business Wire)--

Spirent Communications, a leader in network, services and devices testing, today announced that SCinet, a powerful network that provided nearly 800 Gigabits per second (Gbps) of capacity for the SC12 conference, used Spirent's high-speed Ethernet solutions to test the performance of its wide area network infrastructure. Spirent (News - Alert) also played a key role in the Ethernet Alliance's live interoperability demonstration of high-speed Ethernet switches for high performance computing and data center environments.

"Bandwidth-intensive scientific applications are driving the adoption of high-speed Ethernet in high performance computing and data center networks," said David Crowe, SCinet WAN Team Co-chair. "Spirent' test solutions played an important role in helping us validate the readiness of SCinet's high capacity network that must meet the rigorous demands for performance and scalability that are the hallmark of the SC12 conference."

The SCinet wide area network team used Spirent TestCenter mX 40/100G to perform line rate qualification testing of several 100Gbps Ethernet links to national research and education networks.

"To advance high performance computing and next-generation data center technologies it's critical to understand the performance of high-speed Ethernet in a multi-technology environment," said Aswath Mohan, director, segment marketing for data centers, cloud computing and cyber security at Spirent. "Spirent has long advocated a holistic approach that helps organizations develop confidence in new technologies, especially high-speed Ethernet, and allows data centers and supercomputing applications to grow larger and more cost-effective over time."

At the Ethernet Alliance (News - Alert) booth, Spirent mX 10G and Spirent mX 40G modules simulated traffic volumes, patterns, and flows commonly found in high performance computing (HPC) and data center environments. Specifically, Ethernet Alliance used Spirent solutions to test the Dell and Cisco (News - Alert) System switches for 10G, 40G, iSCSI and Layer 4-7 traffic.
