Advantech announces new Dual Processor ATCA Blade

Nov 26, 2012 (Datamonitor via COMTEX) -- Advantech Co., Ltd., a designer and manufacturer of multicore video processing platforms, has announced the MIC-5333, a Dual Processor ATCA Blade based on the Intel platform for communications infrastructure formerly known as Crystal Forest.

The MIC-5333 Dual Processor ATCA Blade enables the network and packet processing performance available in ATCA form factor with up to 16 cores of Intel Xeon E5-2600 processing power. The MIC-5333 also includes 3 Advantech Fabric Mezzanine Module (FMM) sites allowing Network Equipment Providers(NEPs) to utilize Advantech's Customized COTS framework to create differentiating feature sets and deliver flexible solutions.

Designed to be a common blade for a range of networking applications, the MIC-5333 shortens design times and accelerates the insertion of new technologies creating time-to-market and cost-savings advantages for OEMs.

The MIC-5333 features two 8-Core Intel Xeon E5 Series processors and eight DDR3 1066/1333/1600MHz VLP DIMMs for up to 256 GB with ECC. The MIC-5333 supports up to 8 x 10GBaseKR ports with dual star backplane topology using the FMM-5001Q or with the FMM-5004M, supports up to four 40GBaseKR4 ports based on the Mellanox ConnectX-3 40Gb Ethernet Controller in a dual-dual star topology.

Additional configurations supported via two FMM sites include 10 GE front panel IO or acceleration options. The MIC-5333 also supports a hot swappable R with 36 PCIe gen.3 lanes. RTMs can be used to support additional FMM sites and up to 8 10GE ports.

OEMs can also include the FMM-5006 Intel QuickAssist Accelerator to optimize bulk encryption and data compression, making it easier to bring fast, secure processing to all network elements. Multiple FMM-5006 modules can accelerate secure traffic up to 100Gbps on the blade to give customers the ability to handle many more secure transactions and without the cost of specialized solutions.

Advantech's Customized COTS framework combines the benefits of standard products with the advantages of custom design. It helps Network Equipment Providers accelerate the introduction of solutions where flexibility and performance per watt are equally important to delivering differentiation, protecting investments and lowering total cost of ownership. Customized COTS is based on standard products that have been designed with later customization in mind to enable distinct features and custom IP integration without the risk of expensive, timeconsuming full-custom ODM designs.

When used in large-scale platforms such as Advantech's NeTarium 14-slot platform, MIC-5333 based solutions can support system-level switching capacities of over 1.28Tbps with application processing provided by 192 Intel Xeon processor E5-2600 cores.

"Network Equipment Providers can utilize our available FMM options with Advantech's Customized COTS framework to optimize the MIC-5333 for virtually any ATCA application." said Peter Marek, director x86 Solutions, Advantech Networks and Communications Group. "In fast-evolving networking markets this provides OEMs with increased agility for addressing dynamic market opportunities, delivering scalable and efficient solutions to respond to rapidly changing market requirements." http://www.datamonitor.com Republication or redistribution, including by framing or similar means, is expressly prohibited without prior written consent.
