Spreadtrum's Baseband selected by Samsung for GPRS Feature Phones

Nov 09, 2012 (WORLDWIDE COMPUTER PRODUCTS NEWS via COMTEX) -- Spreadtrum Communications Inc (Nasdaq:SPRD), a fabless semiconductor provider in China, said on Thursday that Samsung has started shipping Spreadtrum's 40nm 2.5G baseband, the SC6530, in two of its feature phone models, the Samsung E1282 (GT-E1282T) and E1263 Trios (GT-E1263B), for sale.

Financial details of this selection were not available.

The company said that it also supplied Samsung with basebands supporting China's 3G TD-SCDMA standard for its flagship smartphones, the Samsung GALAXY S III, the Samsung GALAXY Note and the recently launched GALAXY Note II.

Spreadtrum's SC6530 is reportedly the industry's first 2.5G baseband designed with 40nm CMOS process technology. Also, the SC6530 incorporates an ARM9 processor for high performance and supports quad-band GSM/GPRS, multi-SIM function, HVGA display, H.264 decode and integrates an audio PA.

The company said that its SC6530 is shipping now in Samsung E1282 (GT-E1282T) and E1263 Trios (GT-E1263B), for sale.
