Xerox CTO Sophie Vandebroek Named Belgium's ICT Personality of the Year

(M2 PressWIRE Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) BRUSSELS, Belgium -- Sophie Vandebroek, Xerox's (NYSE: XRX) chief technology officer and president of the Xerox Innovation Group, has been named Information and Communications Technology (ICT) Personality of the Year in Belgium, by DataNews .


Each year Data News honors the excellence of individuals, companies and products within the ICT sector. Winners in all categories are selected based on readership votes, except for ICT Personality of the Year, which is selected by the DataNews editorial team and voted on by a specialized jury, made up of representatives from the academic and business worlds.

Vandebroek , named to her current position in 2006, is responsible for overseeing Xerox's research centers in Europe , Asia , Canada and the United States , as well as the Palo Alto Research Center , PARC, Inc.

Vandebroek holds 12 US Patents and has received awards from Xerox, IBM, HP, Monsanto, the Belgium National Science Foundation, Semiconductor Research Corporation, IEEE, and Cornell University. She is a Fellow of the Institute of Electrical & Electronics Engineers, a Fulbright Fellow and a fellow of the Belgian-American Educational Foundation. Vandebroek is a member of the U.S. National Academies Committee on Science, Technology & the Law, a member of the board of directors of Analogic Corporation and Nypro Corporation and a trustee of Worcester Polytechnic Institute.

In 2011, Vandebroek was inducted into the Royal Flemish Academy for Arts & Sciences, and named to the Women in Science & Technology International Hall of Fame for achievements and contributions in science and technology.

Vandebroek was born in Leuven, Belgium where she earned a master's degree in electro-mechanical engineering from Katholieke Universiteit, Leuven, Belgium. She received her Ph.D. in electrical engineering from Cornell University, Ithaca, N.Y.
