Research and Markets: Colombia Telecommunications Report Q2 2012

(M2 PressWIRE Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) Dublin - Research and Markets (http://www.researchandmarkets.com/research/c14cc499/colombia_telecommu) has announced the addition of the "Colombia Telecommunications Report Q2 2012" report to their offering.

Business Monitor International's Colombia Telecommunications Report provides industry professionals and strategists, corporate analysts, telecommunication associations, government departments and regulatory bodies with independent forecasts and competitive intelligence on Colombia's telecommunications industry.

According to the latest data available from operators and MinTIC, Colombia's mobile market reported an exceptional performance in Q311, gaining just under 1.5mn new subscribers. This is the best performance posted by the market since Q408, and takes total mobile subscribers to nearly 48mn - passing the 100% penetration rate.

In broadband, Telefonica, Telmex and Empresa de Telecomunicaciones de Bucaramanga won a US$17.4mn contract from MinTIC to deploy broadband to more than 115,000 rural Colombian homes, while Gilet also won a US$18.5mn contract to connect 1,676 rural schools to fixed broadband. Both of these moves suggest that Colombia is on course to accomplish its goal of connecting 8.8mn homes to the internet before 2016.

Mobile broadband continues to post strong growth - climbing by 81.3% y-o-y to total 2.7mn subscribers in Q311.

While fixed-line subscriber numbers continue their slow, but steady, decline, some smaller operators are posting gains in subscriber numbers, but the larger players are seeing their subscriber base eroded.

The latest data from MinTIC show that pay-TV subscribers are posting strong growth.
