Chicago Tube and Steel Group Receives Top Honors at FMA Safety Awards

CHICAGO, Apr 10, 2012 (GlobeNewswire via COMTEX) -- The Fabricators & Manufacturers Association, International (FMA) has announced the 2012 FMA / CNA Safety Awards. JMC Steel Group ("JMC") was recognized for excellence in safety in three categories: 2012 Safety Award of Honor, 2012 Safety Award of Merit and 2012 Most Improved Safety Record.


"This year's recognition in all three categories demonstrates our continued commitment to strive for excellence in safety," said John Higgins, executive vice president, operations, at JMC. "Our people have embraced this commitment in each of our facilities, and these awards demonstrate the results." The 2012 FMA / CNA Safety Awards recognize metal fabrication companies for commitment to excellence in safety. Winners are determined by the FMA Safety Council and the awards are presented on April 25 and 26 at the annual FMA Safety Conference in Milwaukee, Wis.

2012 JMC Steel Group award winners: -- Atlas Tube Facility, Blytheville, Ark.; and Wheatland Tube, Sharon, Penn. were presented the 2012 Safety Award of Honor for having a perfect safety record -- no recordable injuries or illnesses for calendar year 2011.

-- Atlas Tube (Structural), Chicago; Atlas Tube (Pipe), Chicago; Atlas Tube Canada, Harrow, Ontario; and Atlas Tube, Plymouth, Mich. received the 2012 Safety Award of Merit for posting an injury and illness incidence rate for calendar year 2011 that is better than the published Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) rate by 10 percent or greater, based on their North American Industry Classification System (NAICS) code.

-- Atlas Tube, Plymouth, Mich., was awarded the 2012 Most Improved Safety Record Award for being the Safety Award winner with the greatest percentage of improvement over the prior year.

For JMC to be eligible to receive recognition, the company was required to submit OSHA Form 300A, Summary of Work-Related Injuries and Illnesses, for the period Jan. 1, 2011, through Dec. 31, 2011. Companies of all sizes were eligible. According to FMA, winners were determined based on NAICS code categories and BLS injury and illness incidence rates.
