4G LTE Network to Expand in Sarasota-Bradenton

SARASOTA, Fla. --(Business Wire)--

More wireless customers in Sarasota-Bradenton soon will have access to the nation's fastest 4G wireless network, when Verizon Wireless expands its most advanced network here later this month.

Verizon (News - Alert) is adding 4G LTE (Fourth Generation/Long-Term Evolution) coverage and capacity with 19 new cell sites in Sarasota and Manatee counties. Communities in Manatee County soon to be covered with 4G LTE (News - Alert) include Lakewood Ranch, Parrish, Memphis, Terra Ceia Bay, Lake Manatee State Park and the Manatee Airport. In Sarasota County, 4G LTE will soon launch in Venice, Venice Gardens, Nokomis, Laurel, Northport, Buchan, Englewood and at Venice Municipal Airport.

Verizon Wireless (News - Alert) launched 4G LTE in the core areas of Sarasota-Bradenton and numerous other Florida markets in 2011, and already covers 75 percent of the state's population with the advanced technology.

Nationally, the Verizon Wireless 4G LTE network coversmore than 200 million people in more than 200 cities, and the company plans to more than double the number of its 4G LTE markets by the end of the year. The rollout of 4G LTE across Verizon's entire network footprint is scheduled to be complete by the end of 2013.

4G LTE technology is up to 10 times faster than the company's industry-leading 3G network. In real-world, fully loaded network environments, 4G LTE users should experience data rates of 5 to 12 megabits per second (Mbps) on the downlink and 2 to 5 Mbps on the uplink.

The 4G LTE network allows streaming videos with no buffering, or downloading and viewing full-length HD movies. Music lovers can download songs in seconds, gamers can take part in multiplayer online action, and social media types can upload photos and posts while on-the-go. Business owners can use the efficiency and speed of the 4G LTE network to boost their bottom line.

"Customers have had a taste of the speed and power of 4G LTE in the core areas of Sarasota-Bradenton," said Pam Tope, Florida region president for Verizon Wireless. "We're pleased to expand this superior technology throughout more local communities, Florida and the nation."

The Verizon 4G LTE network was named "Fastest 4G Network Yet" by Popular Science's 2011 Best of What's New Awards, and ranked No. 1 on PC World's 100 Best Products of 2011.
