Avaya Government Solutions Launches Mobile Application to Bring Farmers' Markets Into Focus

FAIRFAX, VA, Mar 21, 2012 (MARKETWIRE via COMTEX) -- Avaya Government Solutions, a wholly owned subsidiary of Avaya, today launched its first mobile application for smartphones developed for the public market. The new application -- Farmers' Market Finder -- is part of Avaya Government Solutions' goal to deliver innovative mobile applications that help government agencies repackage and disseminate valuable information to large public audiences.

Farmers' Market Finder taps the national U.S. Department of Agriculture's (USDA) extensive database of markets that produce and deliver locally grown food, enabling people to search and locate farmers' markets in their vicinity. The application provides information about specific goods sold in each farmers' market, as well as addresses and directions to each market. The application, available now for iPhone devices and soon for Android-based devices, is now offered via the Apple iTunes App Store.

Avaya Government Solutions is an IT services and core communications provider for the federal government, and helps customers communicate and collaborate by integrating their applications and communications infrastructure. With Farmers' Market Finder, and other forthcoming mobile applications, Avaya Government Solutions serves as a mobile partner for government agencies seeking to interpret and repackage their databases for specific audiences that are on-the-move. This announcement highlights Avaya's commitment to bring The Power of We(TM) to every Avaya customer, helping businesses to drive faster collaboration, smarter decisions and better business results.

Quote: "Avaya Government Solutions is uniquely positioned to deliver a new generation of mobile applications that help governments disseminate vast amounts of information to the public in new and helpful ways. Farmers' Market Finder showcases how we can quickly deliver important and interesting government data directly to intended audiences, an approach we can apply to other types of databases for mobile users. It's fair to say while everyone has different interests, we all have one thing in common -- an increasingly mobile lifestyle." --Tony Turni, vice president, Services, Avaya Government Solutions Additional Facts: -- There are more than 7,100 farmers' markets in the U.S. as of 2011. The USDA estimates that there is a 17% annual growth since 1994 in markets across the country.(1) About Avaya Government Solutions Avaya Government Solutions is a provider and integrator of secure, certified business collaboration and communications solutions, providing unified communications, contact centers and networking to government agencies of all sizes around the world.
