Voxeo Helps Fight Financial Data Fraud by Extending Highest Level of Protection to Customer Self-Service Applications Hosted in Its Multiple Worldwide Data Centers

ORLANDO, FL, Mar 07, 2012 (MARKETWIRE via COMTEX) -- Voxeo, the leading provider of Unlocked Communications, announced today that it is extending its fight against financial data fraud by bringing Level 1 PCI-compliance capabilities to multiple data centers in the United States and Europe for hosted IVR applications built on its award-winning Prophecy and VoiceObjects On-Demand platforms.

Merchants, banks and callers using automated self-service phone systems to give sensitive credit card and financial information over the Voxeo platform can rest assured their data is fully protected to the highest standards of compliance to the Payment Card Industry Data Security Standard (PCI-DSS). PCI Level 1 compliance assures Voxeo's network architecture, security policies and development procedures are independently audited by an outside firm and found to meet or exceed their standards. The PCI-DSS Level 1 certification is the highest certification a merchant or service provider can achieve.

The average organizational cost of a data breach increased to $7.2 million and cost companies an average of $214 per compromised record in 2010, according to a report by Symantec Corp and the Ponemon Institute. And there are no signs of that risk abating. When brand reputation damage costs are also factored into the equation, it becomes critical that Voxeo's clients have the ability to build and deploy IVR solutions that minimize the risks associated with payment data compromises.

"Voxeo is committed to delivering the absolute best customer experience in the communications industry, and this Level 1 PCI-compliance just takes that one step further," said Ryan Campbell, chief information officer at Voxeo. "When our clients build applications that collect sensitive financial information, their customers can trust that information is protected. Our PCI-compliance is an ongoing process. As financial data fraud becomes increasingly sophisticated every year, it's more difficult and more important for each provider to stay ahead of those threats. By coupling PCI compliance with our best-in-class communications platform, Voxeo is a valued partner in providing an unparalleled competitive edge." Voxeo established its first PCI-compliant platform in early-2008 and first audited Level 1 compliance in 2011, providing European clients with a secure cloud environment suitable for deploying applications that handle cardholder information. Customer demand led Voxeo to fast-track a PCI-compliant solution for deploying communication applications in a secure cloud environment in the United States.

"When working with companies that are implementing new PCI initiatives, we generally find a wide variety of preliminary gaps in meeting the PCI DSS standards," said Andrew Cannata, managing director of Sunera's Information Security Practice, the independent PCI-compliance auditor for Voxeo. "This is especially the case where entire physical and logical environments are in scope. Based on business requirements and constraints, as well as the overall size of the remediation projects, companies typically take at least 6-12 months to complete remediation efforts. Due to the innovative, customer-driven, and highly-skilled team that Voxeo employs, they were able to establish a PCI-compliant environment in just over three months. This speaks to the technical expertise and dedication to a secure, PCI compliant, environment." About Voxeo Voxeo unlocks communications. We loathe the locks that make voice, SMS, instant messaging, Twitter, web chat, mobile web, unified communications and self-service applications difficult to create, manage, analyze, optimize and afford. Every day we work to unlock the neglected value of these communications solutions with open standards, disruptive innovation and a passion for problem solving -- fueled by a company-wide obsession with customer success. We do so for more than 250,000 developers, 45,000 companies and half of the Fortune 100 from our headquarters in Orlando, Beijing, Cologne, and London.
