Advantech to Showcase Broadest Range of Products based on Next Generation Communications Platform from Intel

Advantech selects Mobile World Congress and RSA® Conference 2012 to demonstrate the benefits of consolidated workloads on Intel® architecture, enabling faster packet movement and processing in Deep Packet Inspection (DPI) applications TAIPEI, Taiwan, Feb. 22, 2011 – Advantech (TWSE: 2395.TW), a global manufacturer of network computing blades, and multicore processor platforms, announced it will be revealing its future ATCA blades and network appliances employing Intel’s next-generation communication platform, codename “Crystal Forest”, at Mobile World Congress and RSA® Conference 2012.

The Advantech platforms, enhanced with the Intel® Data Plane Development Kit’s (Intel® DPDK) optimized libraries, enable fast packet processing in the data plane using multi-core Intel® architecture technology. These upcoming Advantech appliances and ATCA blades make it possible to consolidate packet, application and control processing workloads on a single Intel® architecture platform.

Advantech is partnering with leading packet processing software supplier 6WIND and network intelligence expert Qosmos to provide an optimized development platform enabling fast-track evaluation of these latest technologies from Intel. The platforms will allow customers to rapidly develop and test content driven network intelligence applications based on DPI technology. By starting out with a turnkey appliance pre-loaded with the Intel® DPDK, the 6WINDGate™ software and the Qosmos ixEngine™, developers will benefit from a comprehensive system for faster development.

To demonstrate the benefits and performance levels the platform can bring to packet networks, one demonstration will provide OEMs with insight into how DPI and video analysis can be applied to QoE measurements in mobile video streaming by monitoring a range of network interfaces using the next generation communications platform from Intel. The application was developed by Argon Design in the UK, pioneers in high performance multimedia design, to help service providers understand subscriber video QoE under limited bandwidth conditions.

A second demonstration will highlight how metadata extraction can leverage multi-core Intel® architecture for Layer 7 application identification across multiple 10GbE ports to provide developers of UTMs with a solution available which addresses next generation demands at significantly higher data rates.

Already sampling with early access customers, Advantech’s FWA-6510 appliance and MIC-5333 ATCA Blade fully supports the Intel® QuickAssist Technology common API allowing OEMs to scale designs from SMB firewalls to Service Provider routers in much less time and at much lower development costs.

“OEMs benefit immensely from early access to advanced Advantech platforms pre-enabled by key software elements from our ecosystem partners. It allows them to apply new technology sooner to gain first mover advantage and leapfrog their competition.” said Peter Marek. Director of x86 solutions at Advantech’s Networks and Communications Group. “Customers can start their development and evaluation work on turnkey appliances and later move to target platforms such as ATCA easily. Advantech has those products ready. Our Customized Commercial-off-the-Shelf framework adds distinct differentiation capabilities with time-to-market advantages and significantly reduced R&D spending when compared with ODM designs.” he added.

Steve Price, marketing director, Communications Infrastructure Division, Intel, emphasized that “The Crystal Forest platform is designed to optimize the processor performance availableso that OEMs can help Service Providers to generate new revenue streams from new service deployments.” He added that “Early engagement with Intel’s premier alliance partners, like Advantech, allows OEMs to accelerate their design cycles with the latest Intel platforms for more rapid and timely Service Provider deployment.” Advantech will be demonstrating these future products along with a broad array of Intel®-based multi-core blade and platform solutions in Booth 2G38 at MWC 2012 from Feb 27th to Mar 1st in Barcelona, Spain and Booth 229 at RSA® Conference 2012 from Feb 27th to Mar 2nd in the Moscone Center, San Francisco, CA, USA.
