Thwapr Extends Mobile Video Delivery to 60 Minutes

NEW YORK, NY, Dec 07, 2011 (MARKETWIRE via COMTEX) -- Thwapr, Inc. (OTCBB: THWI), a service for mobilizing and monetizing branded video content, today introduced the ability to send up to 60 minutes of video content directly to mobile devices without the use of an app or need to download. This is ideal for longer format content owners such as television shows, news outlets, viral marketers, and sports organizations that want to reach a mobile fan or viewer base via SMS subscriptions or from Web-based video directly to a phone.

"This is a significant milestone for mobile content delivery," says Bruce Goldstein, CEO of Thwapr. "Thwapr's enterprise partners can now reach millions of users without an app or a download to deliver long format or episodic content in a fully optimized viewing experience with call-to-action buttons built in. Marketers can brand their content, wrap it in advertising or sponsorships and engage their audience without losing control in a third-party environment like YouTube." According to a survey from Adobe Systems published in an article from eMarketer in October 2010 titled "Mobile Users Prefer Browsers over Apps," results showed 78 percent of mobile device users preferred using a mobile browser versus an app to access product reviews, 75 percent preferred the browser for reading blogs and 58 percent for viewing video.

"It's data like this that suggests users are trending towards the simplicity they experience by just using the browser that comes with their phone, rather than making decisions about apps or downloads," said Goldstein.

Content owners and marketers can use Thwapr's video delivery capability to drive valuable actions and deepen relationships with a mobile audience. For example, it can be used to drive cable TV service subscriptions, tickets sales, donations or promote television shows and movies and usage of other marketing channels such as downloading apps or posting to social media. Longer format video can also drive users into paid content services or content provider initiatives such as TV Everywhere and/ or market/promote these services in general to build an audience.

Additionally, Thwapr's Share to Phone(TM) solution can mobilize online video content by simply adding a button to any video on a site to enable viewers to share directly to phone by simply typing in a mobile phone number.

"Thwapr's solution far exceeds other forms of mobile video delivery such as MMS, which can only handle lower quality content of 30 seconds or perhaps a couple of minutes, maximum," continued Goldstein.

Thwapr supports the ability to deliver videos of 60 minutes in length to a majority of smartphones and feature phones using the Android, iPhone iOS, RIM, Symbian, WebOS, Windows 7/Mobile, and other proprietary Operating Systems. This includes devices manufactured by Samsung, LG, Motorola, HTC, Sony-Ericsson, RIM, Palm, Nokia, etc.
