EdgeCast Posts Customer & Traffic Growth

Jul 28, 2011 (Close-Up Media via COMTEX) -- EdgeCast Networks, a content delivery network (CDN), has announced the continued dramatic growth of its customer base and network.

Just six months after announcing its 2,000th customer, the company is now powering more than 3,000 customers, the Company noted in a release.

The EdgeCast network now serves more than 1.5 billion objects per hour on behalf of its customers and carries approximately 4 percent of all worldwide internet traffic.

"Online content continues to grow at breakneck speed, and companies are becoming more aware of the impact speed and availability has on their bottom lines," said James Segil, co-founder and president of EdgeCast Networks. "These factors are creating a 'perfect storm' for CDN, and our performance and feature advantages are helping us win out over the competition." New customers include Yellowbook, the online business directory spawned from the original Yellow Pages; AllSaints, a large online fashion boutique; and ShoeDazzle, a site that delivers millions of cost-conscious personalized fashion recommendations every month.

"As an online retailer offering a rich interactive experience, we need everything on our site to be fast," said Wess Neatherlin, director of IT operations at ShoeDazzle. "EdgeCast enables us to deliver dynamic and static content to our end users quickly and securely." The company said that it also continues to succeed in the challenging telecommunications market, licensing its software to some of the world's biggest telecom operators.

"We have already enabled several major carriers to offer CDN services over their own networks via licensing and resale relationships," says Segil. "Our experience has shown that telecom operators need expert CDN solution providers to help them navigate the complexities of building, deploying and managing content delivery networks, and I'm pleased they've chosen EdgeCast as the most comprehensive solution available." EdgeCast also recently announced new points of presence in Miami and Madrid, and unveiled its Application Delivery Network, a platform that accelerates the delivery of non-cacheable content.
