Teranetics Showcases Arista 48-Port Switch With 10GBASE-T at Interop Las Vegas

SANTA CLARA, Calif., May 18, 2009 /PRNewswire via COMTEX/ -- Teranetics, Inc., a leading provider of high performance Ethernet solutions, is showcasing the Arista Networks high density, auto-negotiating 1/10GBASE-T 7100T switches in their booth at Interop Las Vegas. The Arista 7100T switches, featuring both 48 and 24-port models take advantage of the Teranetics TN2022 Dual-port PHY to deliver the highest port density possible in an Ethernet system, 48-ports in a one rack unit form factor. Driving up port density allows the cost per port to come down and with the ease-of-use of BASE-T, the new switches bring all the pieces together to make 10GE practical for deployment in mainstream applications.

"Port densities of auto-negotiating 1/10GBASE-T and volume 10/100/1000 switches now match. Combined with investment protection for existing Category 5e, 6 and 6a cabling, the Arista 7100T switches are key to driving wide adoption of 10GBASE-T to the server," said Jeff Hirschman, Director of platform engineering at Arista. "The reliability of Teranetics TN2022 design makes it a suitable fit for our needs." "By looking at the underlying needs of OEMs and their data center customers, Teranetics continues to deliver technology that enables broad adoption of 10 Gigabit Ethernet," said Sanjay Kasturia, CTO and Chairman at Teranetics. "We are very pleased that Arista chose our product as a part of creating the cost effective, high performance value proposition of their 7100T switches." Due to the connector size, the highest density practical for stand-alone Ethernet switches in one rack unit is 48 ports. Achieving this density is seminal to making the cost per port of a switch as low as possible and with the 48-port 7100T switch, Arista is the first to achieve this benchmark port density with 10GBASE-T. This density can now drive the economics of 10GbE ports to the traditional cost metrics expected for mainstream Ethernet applications while keeping the ease-of-use of the traditional RJ-45 connector associated with BASE-T. With this, 10 Gigabit Ethernet becomes an attractive choice for data center managers who require bandwidth upgrades in addition to a fabric for unifying multiple rates and networks in the data center.

Teranetics is the established leader in the development of 10GBASE-T products. Teranetics was the first to introduce a single-chip, multi-rate PHY and the first to introduce a single chip, dual-port PHY. This second generation PHY can operate below 6W/port while connected on cable lengths exceeding 100 meters. In addition, the TN2022 features multi-rate capabilities, enabling it to be used with ubiquitous RJ-45 Ethernet connectors and making it backward compatible with existing 1 Gigabit and 100 Megabit network gear.

At Interop The 48-port Arista 7100T switch can be seen in Teranetics booth on the Interop Las Vegas (Booth #2331) show floor as well as at the Arista booth (Booth # 1651) About Teranetics Teranetics, Inc. is the leader in 10GBASE-T transceiver silicon, which is designed for next-generation network applications but supports backwards compatibility with Gigabit Ethernet and Fast Ethernet.
